MET Gala 2011 – Who do you vote best dressed?

The MET is NYC is a place of perfection when it comes to debuting a daring gown.  There were soo many fantastic looks I saw from many of our favorite starlets.  Don’t you wish we could all stroll in and paint the place red?  :) Who do you think was best dressed?  Comment and tell us your thoughts!

Karen Elson in Alexander McQueen

Shimmer and sparkle in a dreamy gold/gunmetal color?  Yes all around.  This dress along with Karen’s smokey eye has LFM in awe.

Ashley Olsen in vintage Dior couture

When Ashley Olsen walks down the red carpet, who isn’t staring?  We think she wins again and looks mature as ever in her vintage dress and clutch.  *Take note of these vintage beaded clutches, by the way…I am predicting they are going to be popping up all over throughout the year!

Miranda Kerr in Marchesa

One of our favorite Victoria’s Secret Models looking like a swan!  Do you dig it?  I probably would have chosen a different shoe..but with Orlando Bloom on your arm, how can you do wrong?

Emma Stone in Lanvin

What I love about Emma Stone’s looks lately is how she always rocks the neon lip.  With her newly golden tresses and her beautiful complexion, she pulls off the neon lip so well, which we’re going to see a lot of this summer!  If you’re looking for an affordable option for pulling off this look, I’d try Revlon.  Hot Coral and Lilac Champagne are two colors my friends and I have tried out, and approve of!

Blake Lively in Chanel

Always our style-star, Blake is looking amazing in her McQueen!  She’s gone redheaded for a movie role.  We say, she’s look amazing in a potato sack.

Taylor Swift in J. Mendel

Unpredictable for Taylor.  Very sophisticated and unique with vixen red lipstick.  Does she pull it off?  I think so…and I think it’s refreshing to see her in something different than her normal frock.  What do you think?

Gisele Bundchen in Alexander McQueen

Gisele is simply gorgeous as the MET’s lady in red, and I love this classy hair-down look.  Who doesn’t love a lady who was honoring the late McQueen that evening?  She looks picture perfect!

Which look was your favorite?

Feet Condoms?! YES.

No, you are not mistaken, you read it correctly! That is the new sensation brought to the Fashion world by the Puerto Rican Sandrysabel Ortiz. The covers, or condoms as the designer adopted them, can transform your basic and old pair of black heels into a glamorous SJP look-a-like. With a bachelors degree in finance, Ortiz 23, dropped out of her stable career in finance which even included an internship at Goldman Sachs in Wall Street, to create her own brand and become an entrepreneur in the Fashion World.

With innovative designs and ideas, Ortiz brought a very cool idea – and new accessory – to this on-growing industry which might soon become a hit. It is an easy way to outlet your own originality and add your own style to your shoes. Check it out some of Heel Condoms designs…

An adorable Spring look…

As I have a week off to enjoy a little relaxation before my Spring classes begin, I’ve gotten the chance to browse some pretty looks for Spring & Summer!  I enjoy looking at various blogs for a little of this style inspiration, including College Fashionista.  I like this website because it shows the various looks that are popular at college campus’ all across the country (and even a few schools in Europe!).  It was on this site that I stumbled upon this really cute ensemble of a student at the University of North Carolina.  This girl embodied quite the lovely Spring look that I really wanted to share with you all, because I believe it to be a look that can flatter many-a-body type!

I’m definitely a fan of florals, button downs, and high-waisted shorts – and that is why I really wanted to feature this outfit.  This student pulled her Spring outfit together with fun lace-up sandals, minimal jewelry, and a simple headband! Also, accenting the waist while keeping movement in the shorts is a style versatile enough to be worn on many women.   The “Guru”, as they call them on College Fashionista, who wrote up this article gave her own suggestions of places to find pieces similar to those in the photo, but I’ve also been poking around to various websites and wanted to give my own little ideas.  Hope you enjoy!

First of all, LOVE these fuchsia shorts.  Take your denim shirt from last season (as we wrote about here!) and pair it with a fresh and bright colored short.  This look could work for a walk in Grand Haven, to class, or shopping with the girls.  We like versatility!

Gala Short by J. Crew, $150

I love this poppy colored blouse with the fun black and white printed shorts below!  Roll up the sleeves and throw on a little gold jewelry and you’re set for a date night.

Silk Blythe bouse by J. Crew, $98

Batik saunter short by J. Crew, $79.50

And of course, our lovely florals!  Check out this very affordable and adorable blouse paired with a modern spin on the classic khaki short…

Elle floral roll-tab henley by Kohl's, $16

Ali Ro brown pleated shorts found at Bluefly, $76.99

Too hot for the button down?  Try this airy lace top with a bandeau underneath, and pair with these navy scalloped shorts.  The shorts also come in a fantastic shade of red if you want something a little brighter.  You should always tuck in your blouses, but the way this lace hangs you are free to tuck in or out to your liking.

Staring at Stars Eyelet Blouse by Urban Outfitters, $59

Pins and Needles High Rise Scallop Short by Urban Outfitters, $54

Wear a lacy cami underneath this sheer floral blouse, and pair with a fabulous pencil skirt for a family Spring party or dinner out with the girls!

On a Sheer Day Top by Modcloth, $54.99

Good Night and Good Tuck skirt by ModCloth, $64.99

Play around this Spring and Summer with unexpected pairings.  You never know when you can conjure up a great outfit!

Let’s hear it for the boys!: Ivy League

We’re loving up on the Ivy League look…classic, timeless, and always polished for a guy.  And now if he has a personality and brain to match!

I celebrated my 22nd birthday this past week!  Per request of the lovely Lo, I’m doing a “What I Wore” for you all!  Below is my outfit when I went out downtown Grand Rapids with my sorority last Thursday to celebrate all of our April birthdays.  The night was one of my favorites of this school year, we all had so much fun going out and dancing on the party buses!  Hope you enjoy!

Dress : I’m sure many of you have seen this dress before, but once I saw it at American Apparel, I had to have it!  It is classic, a little sexy, and super flattering on everyone I’ve seen it on.  I love fitted mini-dresses like these that show a little leg but cover up the arms for a perfect balance.  I’d say they are a wardrobe going-out staple item. :)

Shoes : You can’t see in this photo, but I wore black patent leather Steve Madden pumps that I found at Pink Pump in Royal Oak.

Cover-up : I used my mom’s black pashmina shawl that she bought on a cruise as a cover-up.  Sometimes I like doing this rather than taking a jacket, because it is a little more sophisticated and very versatile!  I love pashmina’s because you can wear them as scarves in the wintertime, or use as a light shawl in the warmer seasons.

Clutch : Also my mom’s.  You can’t tell in the photo, but the clutch is beaded and gave just enough sparkle for the evening.  I like adding vintage purses or items to an outfit for some unique-ness.

Jewelry : I just wore cubic zirconia studs, and couple David Yurman-esque bracelets I found at boutiques in downtown Rochester, including Flirty Fashions.

Make-up : I wore red nails by Essie, and lipstick by Chanel in #19 Gabrielle.  I has just a little winged eyeliner on my top lid using Line Stiletto by Maybelline (which is perfect if you want a winged line), and  I was done!

If you had a fabulous birthday outfit recently, send us your photo!

Royal Wedding Dresses and Designers!

Call me crazy, but I am guilty of staying up until 4am to watch the Royal Wedding!  I know, I know…But not only was I excited to see the newly wedded royalty, but also relive the places I spent time in last summer when I lived in the city, including going to mass at Westminster!  Bottom line is Kate and William looked absolutely stunning, from the Grace Kelly-esque of the gown to the way they looked at each other with love in their eyes.  Check out a few of my favorite photos from the big event!

Will in his army wear, and Kate in her Sarah Burton (of the late Alexander McQueen)

The bridesmaids and the groomsmen alongside.

The Royal family, loving the Queen in her Canary yellow Angela Kelly dress and hat!

Kate's dress compared to Grace Kelly's a perfect fashion icon to model her look after!

We must give our utmost recognition to Pippa Middleton, the gorgeous sister of Kate who looked stunning as her maid of honor.  She was also wearing Sarah Burton for the late Alexander McQueen.

The kiss!

And…our best dressed guests!  The British really know when to do it up when it comes to grandeur events, especially when it comes to ladies and their hats.  When dressing for a royal wedding, there is no idea that a look can be taken away from a bride.  Everyone dresses to the nines!

Victoria & David Beckham are always a stunning couple. VB wearing Philip Treacy and Christian Louboutin.

Miriam Gonzalez Durantez, wife of deputy prime minister, Nick Clegg. We love her forties-style glamour!

Charlene Wittstock, fiance of Prince Albert of Monaco, in Akris.

Carole Middleton, beautiful mother of the bride, dressed in a wool crepe coatdress by Catherine Walker.

Netherland's Princess Maxima in blush-colored lace.

Sophie Winkleman, actress and wife of Lord Frederick Windsor, in a classic Giorgio Armani.

Coachella 2011 fashion stream

I know many of you can agree with me here – but I am in serious need of a little pre-finals creativity and intrigue.  Therefore, I’ve been spent my study breaks poking through blogs and websites trying to find my favorite Coachella looks to share with you all.  In a festival with fantastic band line-ups, you can sure find some finely dressed hipsters.  I think we’ll find the “festival look” to be pretty apparent this summer as well.  Check out my picks and enjoy!

Whitney Port

Love the lace & brogues combination. :)

Paris & Nicky Hilton.

Katy Perry.

Vintage tops and American Apparel shorts were definitely big in the fashion scene of this year’s Coachella.  Also, Urban Outfitter dresses & rompers, and other pieces from ASOS and TopShop were everywhere.  Along with these wallet-friendly articles of clothing, more exclusive names can be found dressing some wealthy Coachella fashionistas.  That is what makes this festival so inspiring.  From Prada to Urban Outfitters, the fashion makes a statement as loud as the music!
